Five Things You Can Expect In a Child-Centered Classroom.

Child-centered learning is the new buzzword in many schools, but at DMS, we’ve put children in the driver’s seat for over two decades. The Montessori method teaches us to create individual learning journeys for each child, and that only happens when their individual talents and challenges are taken into account. As educators, we’re committed to maintaining the following five standards in all our classrooms;

Each Child has Constructively Challenged: Your child possesses a unique balance of strengths and weaknesses. We’re committed to working with them at their individual levels instead of imposing a “one-size-fits-all” model of teaching and learning. In our child-centered classrooms, we adjust learning methods and outcomes on a case-by-case basis to ensure that no child is bored or shamed for falling behind.

Skills Acquisition Is A Priority: Traditional learning methods compel children to memorize large amounts of content with very little practical application. Montessori education is designed to prepare children for the real world, and our curriculum is designed to raise young leaders with strong problem-solving skills in various sectors.

Children Are  Confident Leaders: At DMS, we train our students to take initiative and develop leadership skills. Active learning through real-world experiences is a foundational tenet of the Montessori method, and we’ve built a supportive environment that encourages all children to express their views confidently and respectfully both in and outside the classroom.

Assessments lead to action plans and not rankings: Instead of conventional testing methods that focus on ranking and shaming students, all tests and assessments at DMS are designed to reveal the gaps in a student’s knowledge and understanding, so we can work with them to address any issues without affecting their self-esteem.

Educators are passionate, caring, and supportive:

The traditional teacher-centric model leaves little room for teachers to meet each child's needs. However, the emphasis on one-one-interactions in a child-centered classroom allows educators to understand each child’s unique goals, and walk alongside them to help them succeed.

Our dedicated and experienced faculty members are here to help your children become the best version of themselves. We’re always available to answer your questions about child-centered learning, whether you’re a first-time parent, or are looking to transition from traditional learning methods. Please contact the school administrator to schedule a conversation about your child’s next steps.
