Preschool.
Our Preschool is the heart of DMS. Your child’s intellectual curiosity is at an all-time high, and at this age, their perceptions of the world around them will continue to shape the way they think and learn for years to come.
This is why we have such a strong commitment to facilitating self-paced, individualized learning through play.
Our curriculum is shaped by the Montessori Method, which emphasizes holistic child development.
Each child has a unique learning style, and at DMS, our primary goal is to create a nurturing environment where they can learn experientially based on their interests and ability.
We offer your child the freedom to learn about the world around them within teacher-curated and supervised learning environments. Our young learners work within 5 curricular areas:
Practical Life: This is the heart of Montessori education. Our young learners practice real-life skills that teach them independence, concentration, and essential fine motor skills in a realistic context. Our teacher-curated environments give your child the freedom to explore the world through play in cooking, cleaning, gardening, lessons in social interaction, and other key activities that shape our daily lives.
Sensorial: Your child will engage their five senses as they learn about similarities and differences, dimensions, colors and shapes, and differences in smells, tastes, and sounds. This helps them to create meaning as they encounter the world, learning to classify and sort objects and ideas.
Mathematics: Our mathematics program is designed to teach young learners to understand abstract mathematical concepts from a hands-on perspective. Children learn to use counters and other tools to understand counting, addition, subtraction, decimals, multiplication, and division.
Language: Your child develops practical written and oral communication skills as they learn everything from how to hold a pencil, to phonics, to how to speak in routine social interactions.
Culture: Our young learners learn about the world around them by exploring key themes in Geography, History, and Pre-Science through curated projects and play.
In all five areas, DMS educators introduce new ideas and then switch to a supervisory role as children work independently and collaboratively to learn and understand in their own way. Our primary objective is to create a stimulating, child-friendly environment, and we achieve that with caring, supportive staff and carefully selected educational materials to help your child learn and grow into the best version of themselves.
